How reluctant am I to touch upon this subject! But “to leave the monastic order” presents a

cruel reality we must face in the current time of five degenerations. Instead of dodging the issue,

I may as well look at it squarely and bravely.0 O) X* q' s4 y* z, W7 b7 u! n

8 a2 V1 U2 `1 A$ e G像吃了一只苍蝇般不是滋味。记得在他出家初期,也可算得上是闻思精进、戒律清净、智) M2 L. \. q/ [* G1 C" c

慧日益增上的典范。他曾说过:“我只要活一天,决不还俗。让我还俗,还不如死掉。”

这样一位下了很大决心的人,却食言还俗,十分令人痛心。

A few months ago a monk, beset by afflictions, declared to renounce his monastic life of more

% v1 s- B/ z$ @- @' |than 10 years. When I heard this news today, I got quite upset as if I had swallowed a fly. I recall$ w8 z6 N( q0 H# S5 N% ~: X
% @, n8 c9 |) P9 S2 `/ Q6 }% learly on, his ordained peers had regarded him as a model by his diligent study and keeping pure8 g+ M1 `- ^- L- v9 q4 B
7 m/ y2 `. l& {) p/ D7 G( M
precepts. Once he asserted: “As long as I am alive, I will never leave the monastic order even for
( l5 R$ q, F& `0 S: Y6 \( n# n$ W" Q$ |4 U# N# B# D4 J
one day. For me, returning to the worldly life is worse than dying.” A person who proclaimed his
^0 S% t/ {% n! z" Q% {
5 F$ j4 y+ q' h/ M9 r5 ffaith with such strong determination still ended up eating his own words and repealed his vow.0 Z/ g& k' v& V# l
' I( U1 _0 Y2 {* ^0 s3 `How can I not feel sick at heart!
" L9 V; k" v1 G9 Z. p0 k1 ~$ i% Q$ ?+ [ [4 w
他在电话中闭口不谈佛法,却无休止地言及他的生意。当问到他生意如何时,他像饱含 了* x8 F$ K0 U0 ^) C$ p
( U: p9 s" |5 ~) R# }一大堆苦水,忙不迭地向我倾倒:“如今的生意太难做了!每天8小时,却挣不到十元钱。
; V+ A# \) {' u0 J$ z* f% z3 p; {; v( Z! k3 }( K g. H
想起以前出家时无忧无虑的生活,真像在天堂一样啊!唉!!”听了他的苦恼,我真不知

, a8 z! ?; Z) O5 k" r! j该如何应答。

) x2 L/ a+ F; wOver the phone, he veered away from discussing the Dharma, but instead tattled endlessly about

U/ C& e: E8 O! f2 ~: j8 S/ ehis business. When I asked how it was going, he started to pour out to me his pent-up miseries:) d; y# x+ r9 O
" m( c& n; {6 v! t$ c4 ?: Z“You know, it’s so difficult to do business these days! My hard labor of eight hours daily earns me
' }, ^8 y5 i9 L9 K- {$ {2 V: v0 d1 F: |: c1 t
less than 10 yuan. The ordained life at the monastery, as I recall now, was so peaceful and worry-4 v4 W; v' M% w2 e( z0 a
, O+ Z( W# @, G' C7 ? E; ~) Xfree, almost like living in heaven! Alas!!” Hearing his complaints, I have no idea how to respond.$ i3 c& r, @8 f; b5 C; u7 l
/ x, e0 }3 Q" Z不过令我庆幸的是,他的见解至今尚未改变,对三宝的信心也没有退减,忏悔心恒时不离, s l. Q( L6 d/ S
' ] V* A0 P$ M: g& O左右。虽忙于生意,却不离念诵。
- m/ ^: i9 }7 @4 E4 E1 N3 b) N; n: j. a8 h6 j# U9 N1 z* `& \- V7 R
But there is some consolation for me: He is still holding onto his views and his faith in the Three9 {5 d2 d# K @- p
; @6 D# I9 M0 l1 f
Jewels has not waned. He takes every opportunity to do the purification practice and also
* \7 t# w' A8 O. [" q0 e+ r1 f3 H! L; s$ Q
remembers to recite mantras while busy with his shop.
9 `* y7 `, N, A) A* E6 X7 E1 c9 p* g. f1 a7 u: ]. ?
喇拉曲智仁波切曾有一位很有名的弟子因故还俗,但别人毁谤他时,仁波切却说:“毁谤

4 P& z; J0 L d/ Z7 U# I: ]7 {别人是错误的,他的身体虽然还俗了,心却没有还俗。”

Once, one of Lhala Chodri Rinpoche’s main disciples left the monastic order for some reason.

- y2 y% A* u. a4 dWhen others condemned him, Rinpoche said: “It’s not right to speak badly about others.

Although his body has resumed a worldly life, he has not done so in his heart.”. ~$ a: Z% n% ^/ n

+ r6 }0 Q z; _, I, w( Z) @" V; k1 _正见。”如果见解毁坏,不行忏悔,反而责怪上师三宝,即使身体没有还俗,其内心却已

It is stated in the scripture: “Better to break the precepts than to damage the right view.” In the, r3 ^( j6 E# n
& G8 F6 o; I# k, C: DFour Hundred Verses of Madhyamaka, it says: “One would rather transgress edicts than abandon
