- f" a+ _* x# a1 S/ PHow reluctant am I to touch upon this subject! But “to leave the monastic order” presents a @1 \5 U5 V$ r0 {5 g. }" {1 M
; J- j. c K3 F7 R4 ]- p* i" ccruel reality we must face in the current time of five degenerations. Instead of dodging the issue,

今天,听到一位出家十几年的人,为烦恼所缠,已还俗好几个月了。听到这个消息,心里

像吃了一只苍蝇般不是滋味。记得在他出家初期,也可算得上是闻思精进、戒律清净、智

慧日益增上的典范。他曾说过:“我只要活一天,决不还俗。让我还俗,还不如死掉。”
! N2 R# S2 b F
, s) ]* Z( L8 M0 [这样一位下了很大决心的人,却食言还俗,十分令人痛心。
; s! k, m* l/ B8 U: N$ c; D0 [% v+ K/ Q8 P. X* }: W
A few months ago a monk, beset by afflictions, declared to renounce his monastic life of more
( H4 h$ a9 U- P1 `2 p/ _3 i2 u! A: a9 J7 Q# e4 B2 O* w# `
than 10 years. When I heard this news today, I got quite upset as if I had swallowed a fly. I recall
$ D, a! `5 C" x5 `+ c9 O/ }: d6 F. v' h% c' S& J/ f l
early on, his ordained peers had regarded him as a model by his diligent study and keeping pure: Y: _' ~, V u
^( M* D- a$ G# e/ ^* }. k. q
precepts. Once he asserted: “As long as I am alive, I will never leave the monastic order even for6 a7 R L+ _: `+ P4 b! O
! w0 q7 ~& \4 S! [5 Xone day. For me, returning to the worldly life is worse than dying.” A person who proclaimed his
) Z$ B& P c; Q! _) z ^
3 O2 l4 K) Z3 m/ B! Hfaith with such strong determination still ended up eating his own words and repealed his vow.* r1 u! D' A* y. F
5 W1 l* `0 F9 x/ uHow can I not feel sick at heart!! X q- I/ _/ h. D" M
u" ~$ c2 D; B& } u5 w3 C" l! R5 C% K他在电话中闭口不谈佛法,却无休止地言及他的生意。当问到他生意如何时,他像饱含 了$ a: h+ t& l4 X% y, L1 M
8 a: } j$ N. v: y6 E: {一大堆苦水,忙不迭地向我倾倒:“如今的生意太难做了!每天8小时,却挣不到十元钱。" P' l g3 @' _5 n% e
$ V5 L" {6 R9 Y- ]% m7 Y/ g想起以前出家时无忧无虑的生活,真像在天堂一样啊!唉!!”听了他的苦恼,我真不知
' F n& j5 `4 @& y2 I$ R
k6 E( r5 h1 v% ]& \3 e, t2 K Z& r该如何应答。; X, L( w% T0 A5 d8 I
0 m8 a$ `& o1 j2 s: v# g( G
Over the phone, he veered away from discussing the Dharma, but instead tattled endlessly about

' @$ E$ C& P5 ^7 ^4 i4 J; Dhis business. When I asked how it was going, he started to pour out to me his pent-up miseries:

“You know, it’s so difficult to do business these days! My hard labor of eight hours daily earns me

less than 10 yuan. The ordained life at the monastery, as I recall now, was so peaceful and worry-
; ~" l' I% ?0 m4 r/ c
0 C% x) j5 t3 u0 `- n1 {! G) @6 Hfree, almost like living in heaven! Alas!!” Hearing his complaints, I have no idea how to respond.5 W; {# |! l5 J, S

不过令我庆幸的是,他的见解至今尚未改变,对三宝的信心也没有退减,忏悔心恒时不离
/ Y* [1 M8 L1 H& d+ y$ S- E) e
6 u- |# \+ _! w: J+ F左右。虽忙于生意,却不离念诵。7 g1 ^. y8 d, T9 T0 u4 J
9 v q [- n% C' p7 ~ U d7 w
But there is some consolation for me: He is still holding onto his views and his faith in the Three

2 l: P- H. W5 p% I. kJewels has not waned. He takes every opportunity to do the purification practice and also1 R A) e/ n# f: H+ M
6 ?& n% u1 @% G) }remembers to recite mantras while busy with his shop.
h% y& x$ h# n6 W {, i/ `4 g$ U: C* [- {* J
喇拉曲智仁波切曾有一位很有名的弟子因故还俗,但别人毁谤他时,仁波切却说:“毁谤6 @6 `! J5 r. R7 `4 n$ T w
% D3 w/ ]7 f- f: Z3 C
别人是错误的,他的身体虽然还俗了,心却没有还俗。”
: F t$ g0 |3 z+ B$ e, J; K" _# o# H: d: c X2 |) s
Once, one of Lhala Chodri Rinpoche’s main disciples left the monastic order for some reason.0 \- G6 l& T4 w" J$ w' R; _
/ B; z: | n7 T4 dWhen others condemned him, Rinpoche said: “It’s not right to speak badly about others.
* c% Q) O4 Z+ v1 C5 ~/ Z8 D
; X) L) N i- I; x& E$ K- _# ^. KAlthough his body has resumed a worldly life, he has not done so in his heart.”
' }# F- \9 T' W, ^% ~; `4 ?3 b m) P( s( t5 ?
佛经云:“宁可毁尸罗,切莫坏正见。”《中观四百论》中也说:“宁毁犯尸罗,不损坏; x) [" o4 a$ L* P& a' c
% `. i# ^$ U" c1 v! _' c" ?
正见。”如果见解毁坏,不行忏悔,反而责怪上师三宝,即使身体没有还俗,其内心却已9 E- j# h0 `! T& H
$ Z! @( u0 L6 V' x% X- }% i
无可救药了。
& s4 Y6 g, x' R3 o4 u- y, l. ^6 t" u9 [2 \6 b/ \
It is stated in the scripture: “Better to break the precepts than to damage the right view.” In the6 L7 t( N% M. m" s# h/ Y
+ b# b/ ?3 V8 k0 M& ?7 DFour Hundred Verses of Madhyamaka, it says: “One would rather transgress edicts than abandon; P9 w+ Q9 @" J! n+ s7 P/ J
+ m n( V1 Z, R0 f6 m4 @" z
the right view.” If a person has ruined his right view but, instead of confessing sincerely, he1 p4 }) L. y2 A
& j1 m, |/ V, g8 T" F$ ppoints the finger at the guru or the Three Jewels, then this person’s mind is incurably corrupt,
' Z! i" m" C$ A/ g* p3 b+ W1 Y( i! [2 Q/ z
even though his body has not returned to the secular world.
