4 l. V8 t% V* R% i% Ywaited for the evening curtain to roll out so that I could enjoy by myself a peaceful night in! z/ V. {: S' q& H6 Y6 A+ B" D
spring. This, it turned out, was just my wishful thinking. Suspended in the high void was a bright1 | y9 w x/ Q' k X1 w
full moon that sprinkled a fine layer of silver dust over houses, trees, and the garden. It was8 o) r1 X/ ~: q
exactly as described in the poem:
3 _6 l$ \) {; {6 n1 R7 x+ KSo long as there is water in the rivers,
7 l2 K: P Z t3 w- Z) IEven if there are thousands of them,
4 c8 O5 B7 b+ n% S/ ]The moon will be reflected in each.! M# L+ i8 E+ A! j5 S! u
So long as the sky is unobstructed by clouds,1 J! A+ `; M y
No matter how many thousands of miles it spans,
0 H4 y- R; d& J1 k) _' ^$ ]: @It is all clear sky.- P. m7 N3 }, U. \" B; @
池塘中、脸盆里、甚至下雨积下的水坑中,都无一例外地盛着那圆圆的、光亮的脸,仿佛
' E+ v2 Z- C( A4 D. k' i捞之可得。难怪世人有“猴子捞月”的传说了。
% h. Y1 o) |; m- s) L0 o, H2 JIn the pond, washbasin, or even puddles from the rain, there appeared this round bright face, as/ x6 H4 x5 R7 O/ m. T
if screaming to be picked up. No wonder the folklore of “Moon-Capturing by the Monkeys” came
/ I5 c3 N4 v: q V- D# s! Y- J% qinto existence.
4 |% q1 W1 b0 z: e的确,无论地上有多少水器,只要水面平静,水质清净,皆能显现皎洁月影。同样,无论
/ e4 {1 e2 H( F' G4 t多少人,若能以净心观想佛陀,佛也会立即来至彼前,为其加持,排其苦恼,令其安乐。5 C' s q3 y, o; U) Z& _# X
Indeed, regardless of how many water containers there are on the ground, all will reflect the
$ L' n6 |# J0 t* d* B4 M' Msame beautiful moon as long as the water surfaces are clean and calm. Similarly, regardless of) g2 ]8 h. a: ?. _
how many people there are on earth, as long as they visualize the Buddha with a pure mind, the
0 u6 \. T9 c! ~7 vBuddha will appear in front of them to bestow blessing, dispel suffering, and bring happiness.
$ V# a# M! r+ R2 O0 z9 k《宝积经》云:“何人作意佛,能仁住彼前,恒时赐加持,解脱一切罪。”可见如此做法有
) ] k3 C' p* b& ]7 l' E1 e" j$ l很大功德。《三摩地王经》曰:“散步安住站立卧,何人忆念能仁尊,本师恒时住彼前,彼: Q- u# U1 M* s8 Q
者将获广大果。”也许有人会疑惑,为何佛陀会在转瞬之间来至我们面前呢?其原因是因为
& }4 T' e& W0 G0 D自己的心无丝毫垢染,加上智悲尊者的大悲力显现而致。《大圆满心性休息》云:“观想彼; n0 @* \/ r! U, ^: A
临极应理,此为自心清净力,智悲尊主大悲力,佛说如意成所愿。”3 A7 [( i& N, f3 ^
The Jewel Heap Sutra (Ratnakuṭa Sutra) says: “Should anyone think of the Buddha with faith, the
" f' K& G# o7 h/ TBuddha is there, right in front of them, constantly granting his blessings and freedom from all% r" J& N9 t+ o, @4 y8 g+ o
harm.” Hence to think of the Buddha is very meritorious. The King of Concentration Sutra also
- h0 P4 P1 Z% R* U+ S5 ksays: “Whoever recollects the Buddha while walking, standing, sitting, or sleeping will always be
, E' | u" N+ `; iin Buddha’s presence, and will attain vast accomplishment.” People may wonder: How could the
1 J V; S8 m- i4 ], t* jBuddha come to us the moment we think about him? Such manifestation is made possible by our" J, B6 z& g1 [5 n$ _ P6 ^
minds being absolutely pure and by the power of Buddha’s great compassion. A Treatise on
& T% E. {5 N. j5 F! UFinding Comfort and Ease in the Nature of Mind says: “Due to the power of our innate purity and. }& p* P7 @5 K2 a+ x* L
the power of Buddha’s great compassion, the Buddha will approach us and grant whatever is: Y/ y" r* {. ^/ r E
desired just as we visualize him.”; C5 R* @, c% J8 q
如果一个佛教徒,每天一次也不观想释迦牟尼佛,应该感到惭愧。我们应思维经典中的金
$ g: i: t8 Q0 O% x7 k- d2 j刚语,这样对我们消除魔障、获得信心、增加智慧,均有无边利益。当然,如果信心的器
( t2 l1 C/ c3 h皿倒扣,则永远也不会显现佛光月影。7 N. s, k) P V, {- i l
As Buddhists, if we let a day go by without thinking of at least once of Buddha Shakyamuni, we
* t; a. i0 B$ d+ A' {3 o: b8 ?, `should feel ashamed. We should constantly reflect on the adamantine words of the scriptures,
1 I+ J" ~8 p3 f0 E! ]9 ~which will bring us vast benefit in dispelling obstacles, establishing faith, and enhancing wisdom.4 @5 l* ?- S- v p+ z
On the other hand, if the vessels of our faith were turned upside down, then neither the moon: {4 ^7 A# B6 X+ Y5 R
reflection nor any form of the Buddha would ever appear to us.( x) i7 ?4 g8 k u- H# l
