If a spiritual seeker tries to do his practices at home, he is likely to be influenced by situations of
; h! l/ J! a6 L- j# }. @. _8 K9 r) G# G. J g% m7 N
craving, hatred, and delusion. Even if he has every intention of concentrating on his studies, N# t: A; F* Y. p8 Y$ n( i
g4 H6 O. ]- l! f5 _
friends and relatives easily stir up his emotion. Hence, the smartest thing to do is to stay away2 a! C2 w" E1 G# Z
) w& b3 e5 Q' n; ~. ]6 Dfrom home to practice.. G; F; W6 z0 p$ S* b2 h3 k

佛经云：“何处生烦恼，须臾不得住。”

The scripture says: “A place that incites afflictive emotions is a place not to stay even for an/ Q7 |& \% p U( L* m: t; x$ v/ M
/ p/ ?) C5 W; X2 w3 _
instant.”
) ]" Y5 a" Y+ N) ^( ?* Q! r$ q$ v/ h( d
博朵瓦也说：“远离故乡与亲友，如理作意弃散乱，此等之人趋解脱。”- K7 @# F, ]1 Z5 Z3 _' n) J

Geshe Potowa also says: “Leave behind your hometown, relatives, and friends. Give up# B/ S# Q" o3 O/ y) o2 g5 h3 Y8 l, a
. D# ?7 f3 v9 w) l v7 t) w* Edistractions and steer your mind according to the teachings. By doing so, you will attain
( t+ @2 e6 N# A3 H/ G+ g
7 J$ R3 N/ q& m! {. a- c# Wliberation.”

臧巴加惹的修行语录中也有这样一段话：“烦恼因外境而生，不舍弃故乡真是愚痴；修行

需对治烦恼，不依对治者真是愚痴；听闻佛经依因缘而得，不筹备因缘真是愚痴。若远离

故土，即使谣言四起，也不后悔；心依止上师，即使饥饿而死，也不后悔；若通达心性，) t& J) f- {' Y* P% }9 `

即使短暂依师，也不后悔。若远离家乡，即有了对治烦恼的好缘起；不贪图乐果，即已产# X$ h) f6 E' _+ n" U) i

生正信的好缘起；舍弃世间法，是发布施的好缘起。不舍弃故乡，贪嗔是不会间断的。因

" d" z$ G+ s1 Z此，首先离家极重要。世间琐事不能舍弃，就无时修持；世间财物不能放下，就不能斩断

The following quote is found in Tsangpa Gyare’s teachings on practice: “External circumstances

- C. `5 o5 f# [7 E" v. E. u. imeant to subdue disturbing emotions, knowing not to apply antidotes is indeed foolish. The

opportunity to hear the Dharma results from causes and conditions; not knowing to create
0 L/ }. c# _$ }9 V' R/ N
! v5 q4 R! B% P* Z) i+ W4 tfavorable causes and conditions is indeed foolish. Having left the homeland far behind for! k \1 a$ F. x; x9 T3 b8 Y) z
+ L4 Q5 m g! r
practice, you have no regret whatsoever even if rumors abound. Having resolved to follow a
- h2 ~' X/ R5 N4 f/ D6 C1 V4 Q: F
5 m1 h" u2 t" c2 I0 l5 t& d! y# tspiritual teacher, you have no regret even if you die from starvation. Having realized the nature

; x# T- C" }/ k2 o4 fof the mind, you have no regret even if your time with the teacher was brief. To leave the- o/ |3 M0 j" r0 B8 @# \ c' {7 F+ X
+ d* |. a4 G$ L; g3 @( }" M, Vhomeland is a favorable condition for overcoming afflictions. To give up the craving for pleasure2 ~8 f6 y, z+ @! y4 V
* Y/ u& [$ }7 G, o; [is a favorable condition for establishing right views. To banish worldly affairs is a favorable
7 c5 j; c6 J0 w: u# s' ~6 Y5 Z& P. D! f) w/ j
condition for making offerings. So long as you are attached to your homeland, you cannot rid
. T% o. T, U; M0 P7 O( u b/ Q2 @3 v9 v( k
yourself of greed and avarice. Henceforth, the first crucial step is to bid farewell to your home. If; t! f) t6 E5 j. @
# T- _! z# ~/ ]7 ~you cannot give up worldly engagements, you will never have the time to practice. If you cannot ^: d) D- T. Q
+ a2 y" N$ D* {! l% R+ N
relinquish your worldly possessions, you will never sever entanglements with friends and) o' U; ?. C+ |5 k# F0 v
5 L: Y6 J0 k8 u* C3 Trelatives.”; s/ X" ?3 |# b( a

看来，故土家园的过患确实无穷。大智者应难舍能舍，难行能行。

8 X! t X2 r1 ~# FIn all, it seems the ills of staying in one’s homeland are indeed endless. A truly wise person( S% y E/ Q# W1 c9 S

should let go of what is difficult to give up and carry out what is difficult to do.. v# b) D8 q7 d& x

远离家乡和财务的纠缠，依止静处时，才能深切感受到诸大德教言的胜妙之处。
