ULAN BATOR, April 3 -- The central committee of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP) on Friday nominated President Nambaryn Enkhbayar as its candidate for the upcoming presidential election in May. Another main party, the Democratic Party, declared Tsakhia Elbegdorj, Mongolia's former prime minister as its nominee for the election. Four parties, who have seats in the parliament, may nominate candidates. The competition will mainly be between the MPRP and the Democratic Party, according to local media. Mongolia will elect its new president on May 24. President Enkhbayar was elected in 2005 and quit the MPRP after his election in accordance with related laws. |
