China's popular instant messaging app WeChat said Friday that it feels sorry the app was blocked in Russia, adding that the company is communicating with Russian authorities on this issue. Russian telecom watchdog Roskomnadzor has listed WeChat service among prohibited websites, Russia's news agency TASS reported Friday. According to Russia's regulation on Internet management, Internet service providers must register with related government bodies in Russia, while WeChat had a different understanding on this issue, read a press release sent by WeChat to the Global Times. Access to the app was restricted on the basis of Article 15.4 of the law on information, information technologies and information security, according to Roskomnadzor. The block of the app with 927 million active users has triggered wide complaints from the Chinese living in Russia, who said it has affected their daily life and work. |
