(Photo: Shanghai Daily/Ti Gong) A suspect involved in a 4-million-yuan ($586,958) fraud has been extradited from Canada, Shanghai police said Wednesday. The man surnamed Du arrived in Shanghai on June 20. Du is the first suspect that has been extradited from Canada since China's launched the Fox Hunt campaign which targets economic suspects and corrupt Party members and government officials who have fled overseas. Du was suspected of swindling more than 4 million yuan in 2012. He fled to Canada in December 2012 and attempted to immigrant to Canada to avoid prosecution. Shanghai police informed the Canadian law enforcement authorities about Du's alleged crimes in April 2013 and asked for Canada's help to bring him back. |
