BEIJING, July 6 -- Host Shandong province is putting on a final sprint to 11th Chinese National Games as the 100-day countdown draws nearer to the country's quadrennial sports gala. Construction of venues, competition schedules and schemes to ease the possible traffic congestion are all finished for the Oct. 16-28 event and the "preparation on the whole is nice and steady", said Huang Sheng, vice director of Games' organizing committee in a press conference on Monday, with 102 days left before the opening ceremony. "There are two days to go before the 100-day countdown. We still need to be patient and make further efforts," said Huang. According to him, in the following two months, a series of trials will be held in all the venues to test the equipment functions and organizing ability. "Besides, 23,0000 volunteers and all the venue staffs will be trained in these test events to ensure the Games go on smoothly," Huang added. Organizers also paid high attention to the anti-drug jobs and will tighten the rules during the Games. "We will continue the zero tolerance attitude to those who attempts drugs," said Xiao Tian, vice director of China's State General Administration of Sport. "The anti-drug special inspecting groups was established first time for the Games. They already started their job earlier this year for the preliminary round. We also bring in eight more detailed rules to ensure the effectiveness of the test," Xiao added. The 11th Games, which set up 33 events and 362 disciplines, has attracted 12,000 athletes from 46 delegations. It will be held in the capital city Ji'nan and the other 16 branch cities of Shandong provinces. |
