NEW DELHI, Aug. 17 -- India said on Monday that it has "credible information" from its intelligence agencies that Pakistan-based terrorists are mulling fresh strikes in the country, and this year's surge in infiltration in India-controlled Kashmir from across the other side of the border could be a "disturbing" indicator.

"There is credible information of ongoing plans of terrorist groups in Pakistan to carry out fresh attacks," Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said at a meeting of chief ministers from across the nation on internal security.

Seeking to raise utmost vigil against terror activites, Singh said that cross-border terrorism remains a most pervasive threat.

"After the Mumbai attacks, we have put in place additional measures. There is need for continued utmost vigilance," he said.

The prime minister said that the surge in infiltration and isolated violence in India-controlled Kashmir "shows that all efforts to disturb the current status quo have not been given up. Fortunately, the annual Amarnath Yatra passed off without incident, a tribute to the secular character of Jammu and Kashmir".

Amarnath Yatra is a Hindu religious festival during which tens of thousands of pilgrims from all over India go to Kashmir.
