Chinese VP stresses importance of professional, technical talents

BEIJING, Sept. 10 -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinpingon Thursday stressed the role of professional and technical talents in ensuring the country's economic development.

"During the 60 years after the founding of the People's Republic of China, our country made great achievements that astonished the world, which had so much to do with the ability and wisdom of all the talented people in various fields," said Xi at a ceremony honoring top professional and technical talents here Thursday.

During the ceremony, a total of 50 people from science and technology, education, culture and health fields were given the honorary title of "outstanding professional and technical talents".

"These 50 people being honored today represent more than 45 million professional and technical talents across the country," said Xi, expressing hope that they could push forward the country's innovation drive with diligent work and sincere attitude.

Xi, also member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Political Bureau, urged companies and government organizations to attract more talents with favorable treatment and create sound environment for their further development.
