Revenues of Jordan's exports to Iraq surge by 18% in first seven months

AMMAN, Sept. 27 -- Jordan's revenues from exports to Iraq rose by 18 percent during the first seven months of 2009, according to figures released by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ).

Revenues to Iraq amounted to 367.3 million Jordanian dinars (JD)(518.6 million U.S. dollars) during the January-July period compared to 311.1 JDs during the same period in 2008, the CBJ figures showed Sunday.(1 USD =0.709 JD)

Exports to Iraq in the seven months of this year accounted for 50 percent of Jordan's overall exports to the countries of Great Arab Free Trade Agreement (GAFTA), which groups Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Mauritania, Tunisia, Libya, Palestinian territories, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates.

Jordan's overall exports during the January-July period stood at about 2.02 billion JDs, of which exports to Iraq accounted for 18 percent.

Among Jordan's exports to Iraq are transport vehicles, vegetables and pharmaceuticals, while Jordan mainly imports oil from Iraq.
