Local residents look for useful things in the rubble of a collapsed and burnt building in the Sumatran city of Padang, Indonesia, on Oct. 2, 2009.(Xinhua/Yu Yuewei) PADANG, Indonesia, Oct. 2 -- The number of fatalities of the 7.6 magnitude quake in West Sumatra of Indonesia has reached 451, the local Disaster Management Agency reported here on Friday, but Health Ministry said the figure has reached more than 750. The agency said that 240 people suffered from serious injury and2,530 others got minor injury. The quake displaced 329 people, it said. The natural disaster seriously damaged 13,040 houses and over 10,600 got minor damages, it said. Fifty-nine education facilities were seriously destroyed. Two health facilities were disturbed, it said. Fifty-five office buildings were collapsed and 55 others got minor damages, the agency said the quake caused minor damage on 4 roads and one bridge, it said. The number of the death toll was expected to rise as it was predicted that there were more than one thousand others still trapped underneath the debris. |
