Carrie Lam, chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Special Region (HKSAR), on Tuesday promised to complete the investigation and deliver a report in six months amid weeks of violence in Hong Kong.

The investigation would be carried out by the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), Lam told reporters while voicing her strong support for the work of the IPCC, calling it a lawful and independent institution.

She also pledged to build a platform for dialogue so as to "defuse the contradiction" and find a way out for Hong Kong.

She expects the mechanism to receive feedback from people of different backgrounds.

"We want to reach out to the communities as soon as possible," Lam said.

Lam also hailed Hong Kong-Shenzhen inter-city relations when noting that the central government is planning to build China's southern metropolis of Shenzhen into a "global model city with distinguished competitiveness, innovation capability and influence" by mid-century.

She highlighted Hong Kong's close ties with Shenzhen in technical innovation and vowed to enhance cooperation under the framework of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
