Eiffel Tower reopens after bomb threat, evacuation

Platforms of the RER C line that runs along the Seine River were closed for nearly an hour, the state rail company SNCF said.

On the intersecting RER B line that runs north-south, the platform was evacuated at the request of the police for 15 minutes, a spokesman for the Paris transit operator RATP said.

The station was reopened after a police check.

The French senate voted Tuesday to ban the wearing of the Muslim veil, the burqa and niqab.

The introduction of the law had led to threats from leaders of radical Islamist groups against France, but French police made no link between the bomb alert and the vote on the ban.
