China and Myanmar pledge peace, stability

Vice foreign ministers from China and Myanmar have pledged to jointly maintain peace and stability along the border between the two countries, while cracking down on cross-border crimes such as telecom fraud. 

The pledge was made at a bilateral consultation between Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and his Myanmar counterpart U Lwin Oo during Sun's three-day visit to the Southeast Asian country, which wrapped up on Saturday.

China reiterated that it will continue to play a constructive role in supporting the peace process in northern Myanmar, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry readout issued on Saturday.

The two sides agreed to continue the high quality Belt and Road cooperation and jointly build the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor.

They also agreed to jointly promote regional peace, tranquility, development and prosperity.

Beijing denounced Chinese casualties caused by the military conflict in Myanmar, and has been calling for a ceasefire and urging relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint.

With close cooperation between China and Myanmar, a total of 41,000 telecom and online fraud suspects were transferred to China, and several major criminal rings were effectively eradicated, Xinhua reported.
